FIX Automatically dismiss the lock screen if Windows recognizes your face not working

Windows Hello feature on Windows 10 computers helps a user get logged in to a supported device faster. It makes use of biometric authentication to authenticate and log the user into the device. For this, there is a setting called Automatically dismiss the lock screen if Windows recognizes your face. This feature enables the auto-unlock of the device as soon as the biometric input is authenticated. But sometimes, even though this setting is enabled in the Windows Settings app, it does not tend to work properly. There is a very annoying yet simple error that one can encounter. We will check out how to fix this error in this guide.

There are three ways by which one can fix this issue of Automatically dismiss the lock screen if Windows recognizes your face not working. They are as follows:

  1. Run System File Checker
  2. Using the Registry Editor
  3. Refresh your computer.

1] Run System File Checker

Run the System File Checker. This will replace potentially corrupted system files. Because this error might be a result of corrupt system files and the operating system components.

2] Use the Registry Editor

Open the Windows Command Prompt with Administrator level rights.

Enter the following command:

wmic useraccount list brief

Note down the SID for your User Account.

Now, open the Windows Registry Editor.

Navigate to the following path:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\FaceLogon\

In the directory, look for a key named as the SID we noted above.

When you enter that key, you will find a DWORD on the right panel named as AutoDismissOn.

If you set its value to 1, it will enable the feature of Automatically dismiss the lock screen if Windows recognizes your face.

And if you set its value to 0, it will disable the feature of Automatically dismiss the lock screen if Windows recognizes your face.

Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

3] Refresh your computer

If nothing helps, back up your data and then use the Refresh Windows Tool from Microsoft.
