How to fix White Screen on Windows laptop or Computer monitor

Windows 10 often experiences Blue Screen of Death errors. There are several other screens of death that a Windows machine can face. The White Screen on Windows is also an error where the screen of the computer just turns white and freezes. Sometimes it comes up even when you boot your computer up. This leaves very little scope for a user to fix this issue. However, there are still some ways to troubleshoot this problem on your computer.

There can be several things that can cause the White screen to appear on the Windows laptop monitor. But the main issue could be because of the malfunctioning of the graphics hardware. The following fixes will help you to fix the White screen on a Windows computer:

  1. Check the Graphics Card hardware manually
  2. Update or Reinstall Graphics Card driver
  3. Run the Hardware Troubleshooter.

1] Check the Graphics Card hardware manually

You can try cleaning the dust off the components like the Graphics Card of the computer. I would recommend using a small blower or rubbing the components with a soft cloth. Make sure that you do not damage any parts with moisture or cause harm to any circuits while carrying out this task. Check if it is not already damaged physically.

Make sure that you do this very carefully because even a slight bruise can cause your computer to stop working and may cause you financial expenses.

If you are not confident, you can ask a qualified technician to do this for you.

2] Update or Reinstall Graphics Card driver

If you can boot normally, good - else you may have to boot in Safe Mode to carry out this task.

To update the Graphics Driver:

  1. Open Run prompt (Win + R) and type devmgmt.msc.
  2. Press Enter to open the Device Manager window.
  3. Expand the list of Display adapters and right-click on the graphics card driver.
  4. Select Update driver.

Restart the system once done and see.

You could also consider downloading the display drivers from the manufacturer's website and installing them. There are multiple ways to update Drivers in Windows 10.

3] Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

Again, if you can boot normally, good - else you may have to boot in Safe Mode to carry out this task.

The Hardware and Devices troubleshooter checks for changes and problems with the hardware connections and associated drivers. It corrects the issues of possible.

  1. Click on Start and go to Settings > Updates and Security > Troubleshoot
  2. Select the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter from the list and run it
  3. Restart the system once it is complete.
