Lenovo announces Windows 8 ThinkPad Tablet 2

Many tablet manufacturers are counting on October 26 2012 as a day to hopefully improve their business and boost profits - for Windows 8 launches for general availability this day. Among them is Lenovo, which has announced its first commercial Windows 8 tablet.

Named as the ThinkPad Tablet 2, Lenovo might have just succeeded in building a competitive device against many other contemporaries.   The ThinkPad Tablet 2 has a vast screen of 10.1 inches to begin with; coupled with an Intel Atom processor (no wonder Lenovo calls it a joint effort between Intel and Microsoft). Its 1366 x 768 display dimensions provide for seamless touch movements and give more value to the eyes.

Weighing in at 590 grams, the ThinkPad Tablet 2 possesses a pretty convincing 10-hour battery life and a micro-HDMI slot. Measuring just 9.8mm on the thickness scale, it also helps in capturing amazing snaps and engaging in a video-chat, thanks to its pair of cameras (8MP on the rear, 2MP on the front).

The standard model will support Wi-Fi only but there is a possibility of various carrier versions, with 3G and 4G as options. An NFC radio, a fingerprint reader and an optional digitizer (pen) with proper integration into its hardware are significant features of the first Windows 8 tablet from the Lenovo stable.

The design looks bold and sturdy enough to list down the ThinkPad Tablet 2 as one of the premier Windows 8 tablets to look out for in the markets. Lenovo enjoys a decent reputation for its classy design (ultra-books), performance-oriented hardware specs and affordable prices. However, it chose to be mum over how much this beauty will cost.

The specifications indicate the arrival of a strong competitor for the Surface tablet, Microsoft's very own tablet device which has sent strong waves within the community as the prime Windows 8 tablet device.

And with many other manufacturers gearing up for a Windows 8 tablet, it seems that the consumers are going to have a hard time choosing the best one.
