New download extension DLX lets you share Microsoft Downloads on your Blog

Microsoft has released a new capability that allows any site owner or blogger to offer Microsoft downloads from the Microsoft Downloads Center, on their own blog or websites.

Bloggers and website owners will now able to offer such downloads without having to send their visitors to the official Microsoft Download Center.

This Download Extension (“DLX”) includes all the vital information associated with a Microsoft download in a window that opens (and closes) within the site that users are currently browsing. This eliminates the need for deep links that are stripped of vital download information, or having to send users off your site to obtain these downloads.

A small piece of code is all that's needed to adopt the DLX on your site and it's free! The DLX is only available in English and works for all downloads currently hosted in the Download Services Platform except for the following: Multi-file, Regsys, and WinGen-gated downloads.

Here's an example of the DLX implemented on a link to download the SyncToy utility.

Step-by-step instructions:

Locate the download you would like to share at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.

Find and copy the Download ID in the URL of the download. The Download ID is the series of characters after the “FamilyID=” in the URL.

Copy the HTML code below and paste it into your post. Replace the 'REPLACE THIS' string with the Download ID obtained in step 2.

The DLX component would clearly decrease your sites abandonment rate and increase your downloads by keeping readers and customers on your site!
